Abstract

The choice of resource optimization objectives and the corresponding computer algorithms for the Eutelsat TDMA/DSI system are examined. The resource optimization objectives discussed are (in order of decreasing importance) the number of transponders, the number of terrestrial interface modules, and the number of up and down links at earth stations. It is noted that resource optimization problems in TDMA satellite networks are too complex for a general method of solving them to be defined. Special algorithms must be tailored to each system, and these depend to a large extent on the resource selected for optimization. Examples of methods and algorithms are presented.
